BT HH2.0 plus DLink DSL2640R as switch help please
Feb 23rd, 2010 at 7:59pm

I have a wi-fi blind spot in my conservatory where my wi-fi internet radio wants to sit in the sun. Can I use my DLink as a range extender by connecting it into my network halfway between the HH2 and the radio?
Any help gratefully received.

Yes, I should think so.  You will have to connect it to the HH with an ethernet cable as the V2 does not support WDS.

See here
http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/repeaterhubswired.html

The instructions are for a HH as a slave, but the principle applies to your DLink - follow the instructions for the V1 and 1.5 hubs, I think.  You will have to use the addresses and instructions that apply to your DLink when setting it up.

Turn off the DLink Firewall, turn its DHCP off, set its address to one in the hub's range (192.168.1.175 is suggested in the article), net mask 255.255.255.0, gateway and DNS servers 192.168.1.254 if required.

Set the wireless channel on the Dlink to a different one to that used by the hub and whatever wireless security and password you want.

You should end up with two wireless access points in your house, one for the hub and one for the DLink.

IP setings in the radio will remain unchanged, but you will have to tell it to use the DLink access point.

Now on Infinity / V3 and no problems with comps including macs, iPhones, iPads, apple tv etc it's wonderful!
