o2 XDA Orbit GPS Mobile Reviewed

December 29th, 2006 by FileSaveAs in Uncategorized

We’ve now added a review of the impressive new o2 XDA Orbit mobile phone.

This is powered by the latest version of Windows Mobile software, so has all the features you’d expect from a smartphone (Bluetooth, wi-fi, media player, email, web browser, PC sync, etc), but it has an extra feature… GPS

This phone has a built-in GPS receiver, so can be used as an in-car or walking satellite navigation system, without the need for wires or seperate Bluetooth hardware. Check out our review of this phone, for some screenshots, and more details.

The XDA Orbit is available free on some tariffs, with free SatNav software direct from O2′s online store. The phone is manufactured by HTC and there’s a branded version of this available from T-Mobile, known as the MDA Compact III.

    Free Broadband for life

April 17th, 2006 by FileSaveAs in Uncategorized

In April 2006, the home phone company TalkTalk launched “Free Broadband for life”. They’re offering three home phone tariffs with free broadband – best value seems to be Talk 3, which offers:

    - Free broadband for life – speeds up to 8MB
    - Inclusive and unlimited anytime local and national UK landline calls
    - Free calls to other TalkTalk customers

This package costs £8.99 a month, in addition to the standard line rental of £11 a month). BT’s Option 3, BT line rental and BT broadband would cost you £43.49 a month, so this is a heck of a saving.

    FileSaveAs team launches Podcast

April 9th, 2006 by FileSaveAs in Uncategorized

For a number of weeks, we’ve been considering dipping our toes into the world of podcasting. In case this is a new expression to you, a podcast is a downloadable audio file (in MP3 format) in the style of a mini radio programme. This can either be played on your desktop computer, or transferred to a portable MP3 file.

As a trial, we’ve released a Podcast, to see if you’re interested in this becoming a regular feature.

Under the name FrequencyCast, we’re aiming to make regular free MP3 shows available. The first of our podcasts covers digital TV, wireless bunnies, Hi-Def TV and a few other areas of current technology.

You can get to our first Podcast at:

    www.frequencycast.co.uk/casts.html

We have a phone line for feedback and questions, and calls may be included in our next ‘cast. We’d appreciate your feedback, so we can judge whether or not we should make more…
