firmware refuses to upgrade
Jul 27th, 2010 at 3:32pm

I'm trying to set up my spare hub as a repeater (using two home hub 1.0) using jarviser's site and was getting on great untill i realised my second hub is running off old firmware. its using version 6.1.1M and can't update using the bt update manager, i keep getting the error code 100 or 103  Undecided

Tried forcing a manual update but the hub always resets half way though the process then comes up with an error that the hub couldn't be located  Undecided also tried setting up the spare hub as my main hub over night (for two nights) to see if it would update automatically like the other one did but again nothing! help! i have a really weird shaped flat so i can only get wifi through half the flat as the signal can't reach the other end of the flat!

any ideas on how to get the hub to update?

...in particular using the tool in the root of a memory stick so as not to have too long a file path.

And use XP if you have it.

However as a repeater, 6.1.1.M probably has more advantages so I would not bother about upgrading. You probably have more options than in 6.2.2.6, it's just hub phones and FON that were added later.
If you want to use it as the main hub then fair enough, upgrade it.

i unfortunatly only have vista!

i managed to get the two hubs to connect together wirelessly without upgrading however because i can't change any of the configurations or IP adresses on 6.1.1M i can only connect to the internet via my master hub. Any ideas on how to sort it or am i just as well continuing to try upgrading the firmware?

I never had 6.1.1.m so don't know how to get into the IP address changes. I am surprised that you can't just go to http://192.168.1.254 and go into advanced then Config then .Ip Addresses - I seem to remember the way into Admin is slightly different.

If you disable firewall and antivirus in the PC, Vista should run the upgrade tool if you right click and run as Administrator.

Yeah to log in as admin you have to switch users from basic to either admin or administrator, then found out to change the ip adress its not in configguration its in toolbox then devices then wireless then configguration....a bit like going round in circles only to find that it wasn't enabled to scan for wireless devices!

Eventually managed to upgrade it though and got them both connected....now the slave hub just wants to reboot continuously when conected to the master hub....but works fine when they're not connected. Think its going to be a keep trying and make it work thing!

Thanks for your help though! Jarviser your website has been better than any dummy's guide Smiley!

If you upgraded to the latest firmware then it will reset, which is why I suggest either using 6.2.2.6 (locked in the master) or preferably not using WDS at all as you need to use WEP encryption which can be hacked by a 12 year-old. Use ethernet cable and WPA-PSK for reliability and security
