Possible to setup broadband relay for 5 hotspots?
Jul 12th, 2010 at 9:25am

Sorry if i ramble here im not sure im asking the right question. What i have been asked to investigate is the possibility of installing a system that will run 5 hotpots over approx 1000 mt squared with alot of trees present. We have broadband at the park entry and we have a tv aerial cabin that is off centre to the park about 300m away. My idea (if possible) is to relay the broadband from the park entry to the main tv aerial cabin (300m) and then rebroadcast back out to 5 wireless routers? that are in turn about 100m from the tv cabin in different directions. Is this in theory possible or is it pie in the sky stuff. there is a hell of a lot of trees in the area so if its not possible to cover all the park it might not be deemed essential.
Thx for reading my ramble
Neil

Hi,

This is possible, but you will need a plug at every point you wish to have an extender, is this possible?

or if you have the budget, use POE switch with wireless access points that run from POE with cable

Netgear PoE Wireless manager

Netgear PoE Wireless access point

It might be better to get someone in to set it all up

wireless n access points, have a better range, than wireless g, and whilst the trees will have some effect, if you can see the access point, you will be able to get a connection.

the wireless access point i have suggested, does do multipoint bridging using wds, and although a PoE access point can be plugged into the mains

If you have 240v points at all the spots you wish then as rich says purchase some wirless N access points that have WDS, then at the main entrance you can set up a main router and join it all up.......

Gonna cost you a pound or two though.
