Client Server wi-fi home network
Jan 28th, 2010 at 1:35pm

I've read the technical literature on the hardware aspects of setting up a wifi home network. I'm looking for fast computing times for my home computers. Some of the standalones are slow because of all the applications that are installed. Is it possible for the server to hold all the applications for the computers connected through wifi and for each to access them? I assume this will speed up the computing on each of the computers?

Participating into the discussion I'll say that  a proper kind of installation and a appropriate distribution of wireless network is very essential to get good results.

Are you saying you wish to install software on a main pc then access/run the software from other desktops?

If so the you would not really be improving speeds of the pcs, instead of accessing data on the hard drive it will have to talk to another computers har drive..

If your pc is not very quick then you should look at the spec of the pcs and think about improving them, or wipe them and re-install OS and just the software you need.

Hope this helps!

the kind of thing your after setting is is in the realms of a business setup, whereby you have a server costing a few grand, with terminal services running, you would then setup the machines to act as a dummy terminal, this means that users wanting to access the applications would login to the terminal

what you want to setup is going to cost you a few grand for a decent server with terminal server, and access licenses, also the applications may need seperate licenses for use with a terminal server
