transfering backed-up files to a new Psion Revo
Jan 5th, 2010 at 12:54am

This is probably easy, but I am stuck.
I have just refurbished a Revo plus, and want to populate it with the files from my old Revo plus.
I can back-up the old revo, but I cannot get the new one to see the old backed-up files.
If I try 'restore' on the new one it simply says 'no files have been backed up' , and changing the backup directory doesn't help.
I'm sure this is easy if you know how.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I'd suggest copying the files over manually using PsiWin rather than trying to do a Restore. Connect the new machine to your PC, open My PsiWin, then drag the files from the folder where the files were bacxked up to, to the Internal folder on the Revo

Thanks for your suggestion, I will do that.
I am surprised that you cannot clone a device. What I want is to be able to do is keep 2 identical machines.  I can cope with one being for input, and one (the copy) for reference.
Maybe I should look into synchronising the two machines. Is this the method Psion designed it to work.

You should be able to back up a Psion to PC, then restore that backup to a different machine - I was assuming you were having problems doing this, hence the suggestion to do this manually.

To keep two in sync, yes, you would need to sync to PC using PsiWin

I'm still struggling with this. To move manually is OK, but its tedious moving programs etc.
It would so much easier to resore saved info from one machine to a another.
Should this be possible?

I also looked to see if I could syncronise 2 machines, but it only allows me to sync  to lotus or outlook.
I have found Psion faultless over the years, so i would be surprised if its not easy to create a clone of my current machine, or sync it to another.
I guess you cannot do this with 2 machines via the ir ports?

Yes, it's possible to backup a Revo onto a PC, then restore that backup onto a different Revo. That's what the backup / restore facility is designed to do.

You'll find instructions on how to do this here: http://www.posltd.com/helpguides/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20data%20using%2...

As for keeping two machines in sync, have a look at the app EPOCSync - http://www.freepoc.de/software.php

Thanks for your help here.  The problem I am having is that it always says 'no files have been backed up' even when I point the machine to the backup directory of the other. It seems that I need to find the 'new psion' dialogue box so that I can associate one machine with the other. So far this dialogue box eludes me. How can I find it? Also I cannot find how to change the name of the machine.
Thanks for your patients

I did a Google search for that error message and found a fix: http://www.pdastreet.com/forums//showthread.php?t=15959

Hope that does what you need.

Fantastic!   I managed to delete reference to the new machine, then to dock it, set it as the old one, and restore.  It will be ready in 9 mins 20 sec!  good old Psion!
And many thanks for your help

Hi Tood i ve been having the same problem, its why i just joined the forum. I have 2 revos and previously have been able to use one for reference and just update it regularly via psiwin 2.3.3 from the other which i use daily. Transferring to a new laptop i have lost this facility and have exactly the same problem and error message as you describe, so i m hoping the fix here will help me too. I m encouraged by your result! Wish me luck!  Cool
