Connecting an additional PC to BT Home Hub 2
May 21st, 2009 at 1:24pm

Hi and apologies in advance if this type of query has already been answered, but I'm a new member.
I have a Home Hub version 2 which is installed in the lounge of my home where I use a laptop to connect wirelessly via a Linksys wireless adapter. I have found through trial and error that the wireless range of the device(s) is insufficient to connect reliably in other parts of the house. I have a desktop PC in one of the bedrooms which I would like to connect to the internet but the wireless adapter gives an unreliable connection (as above). There is a telephone point in this bedroom. How can I connect the desktop to the internet? I do not mind having to use an Ethernet connection between the PC and the phone point but I do not want to have to run a cable from the bedroom to the lounge. What do you suggest please?

You are stuck with it. The Hub V2 has such  "excellent" coverage (not) that they disabled WDS, so the only way to extend a Hub 2's wireless range is by running an ethernet cable from the V2 hub to a wireless access point, such as an old home hub or a wireless Router.

If you are rich you can use a pair of HomePlugs in place of the ethernet cable.

Thanks Jarviser for your helpful reply. If only I'd known in advance about the magnificent performance of the v2!!!  Sad
