P800 Bluetooth Help Please!
Apr 30th, 2008 at 7:48am

Hi, I have a P800 and my wife a Nokia 7373. My P800 easily find, pair and communicate to the Nokia 7373. However, the Nokia 7373 cannot send any items via Bluetooth although it can receive items from my P800.
Q1 - Where can i find out what version of Bluetooth my P800 has as Nokia advises the 7373 is compliant with Bluetooth specification 2.0 +EDR. Sony Ericsson support could not answer my question and just referred me to a user blog.
Q2 - How do I upgrade my P800 to ensure latest software, drivers etc? Is it simply installing the latest PC Suite software and sync'ing my P800.
Pls be so kind and help  Smiley Smiley
Thankyou!

To update your p800 you need to use SEUS....sony ericsson update service, look here..

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/updateservice?cc=us&lc=en

If you have already setup your p800 with your pc then you have got some of the required software, it can be a bit "fussy" tho. Sometimes you need your java enviroment updating. Check out the FAQ`s on the sony site before you try anything.

As for your BT probs then you could check to see that both phones are "visible" in BT settings?...on the nokia the incoming files will show as a new message, on the p800 they will be placed in the docs folder

Hi PBR and thankyou kindly for your reply.. much appreciated.

I have already visited SEUS prior to posting my question. Thought it polite to do as much research as possible (incl contacting both company's tech support etc) before posting on this site so as not to waste kind people like yourself's time.

My SonyEricsson (P800) is actually not listed on SEUS prob due to its age. However their follow-up phone, the P900, is on there and i believe they are very close in similarity, so i installed the latest P900 software and applied that to my SonyEricsson P800 without any issue.

re Attaching my P800 to my PC.. no probs, works well.

re BT, my P800 discovers and pairs with my wife's Nokia 7373 no probs and communicates readily and well with the Nokia 7373. In my wife's Nokia 7373, her phone do discover & pair (incl exchanging same password to establish the BT link) with my P800, allowing me to send files to her 7373 from me via BT no probs. However, her 7373 is unable to send me BT files in turn.

From reading thru both companies websites, extensive online searches etc etc, my feeling is that our respective BT versions aren't same, which is causing the problem (?).

I have a feeling that the Nokia 7373 BT version is prob the latest and cant respond to my P800 cause the 7373 is looking for a later verion of BT on my P800? But then why would my P800 communicate & send files via BT to her 7373, but she cant send back? Even though both our phones are visible to each other in our respective BT sections (although crucially, my P800 is not showing up in her 7373's "BT Active Devices" menu, but is showing in her "BT Paired Devices" menu).

Confusingly Yours  Smiley

Glad to hear you got a partial success. As for BT problems......all BT devices are supposed to be able to communicate regardless of type as the software etc that runs them is supposed to be generic, this is not always the case and it sounds like you have tried pretty much everything to sort things out. Have you tried pairing and file transfer without a password?? might be worth a try, also can you send stuff from a pc to the p800?? have you tried any other devices like a BT headset just to se if a connection can be maintained

Hi PBR and thanks again kindly for your reply and advice.

Thankyou for clarifying that the BT software version should not be an issue as they are intended to be generic. It removes the software version from the equation.

Thankyou, i will try to communicate without a password, haven't tried that one yet.

Unfortunately my PC does not have Bluetooh functionality so cannot try that one at this stage. But i may now purchase the components to enable my PC with BT functionality to try that.

Yes, i thought of trying a different BT device to again narrow down the potential problem. i have a BT headset that i have tried on the Nokia already, but the Nokia had the same issue with the headset as with my P800. The Nokia showed the headset in "Paired Devices" but not in "Active Devices" and thus causing the Nokia being unable to communicate with the BT headset.

Thanks again for your assistance and i will try your other suggestion.

Cheers
