Just to let you know that the Vodafone GPRS settings you give may not be valid. You can get the correct ones sent by texting WEB to 40127. This information is on the Vodafone website but I found no way of getting to it other than by a direct link (which, as a newbie, I am not allowed to post).

Hi, I am currently trying to diagnose a problem with my father-in-laws broadband connection. He has recently had BT infinity installed but has had continuous connection problems. He has had BT look at the problems a few times but still has issues.

However, as we are visiting them this weekend I am looking into it for him. It turns out that it is a wireless connection issue. He has an HP laptop that continuously drops the wireless connection with the router. When it is connected Speedtest.net only reports about 5mb/s connection speed but then just drops the connection and the wireless icon in the task bar has an exclamation mark in it indicating a wireless problem. If I connect with the LAN cable everything is fine and I get 45mb/s connection speed. I have also brought my DELL laptop with me and that connects over wireless fine and I get 45mb/s speed.

The wireless card in my father-in-laws laptop is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030. I have run netstumbler on my laptop to see what wireless channels are in use locally and tried various wireless channels on the HomeHub which has made no difference.

The only way I have made the connection more stable is by turning off the wireless-N on the Centrino adapter and just using wireless b/g. This has now stopped the disconnections and made it more stable. Obviously the connection is slower at around 14mb/s but at least it is stable and reliable now.

Does anyone have any suggestions as what the problem could be. Having done a bit of Googling it appears there have been some compatibility issues between the Centrino 1030 adapter and the Virgin Superhub so I was wondering if there were any similar problems with the HomeHub3.

Personally I am not a big fan of any of BT's HomeHubs having had a version 1, 1.5 & a version 2 and had nothing but problems with them.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

-Great forum - With help from your forum I managed to obtain remote access to my Security Cameras (Swann DVR1300) and to my iphone - but only for a few hours!

What might have gone wrong - message now "login failed"

I changed the password on the i-phone - and then could not reconnect. Just co-incidence? But am not able to obtain connection externally, which was lost some hours after the password change.

help much appreciated, and thanks to those who have shared their knowledge.

John
Does anyone else have a problem with their BT Homehub not changing from GMT to BST? with subsequent problems with power saving and time on hub phone. My version is Software version 4.7.5.1.83.3.31.1.1 (Type B) which I believe is current. I know you can set the time manually and not sync to a NTP sever but the time keeping on my hub is very poor in this mode.

If you do a full reset of the hub, it will reset the password and wireless access codes back to defaults, for which you should have labels, unless the cunning so and so has pinched them! The hub comes with these on a removable tab that slots into the top of the hub and also with a couple of spares, which may still be in the box, if you still have it. Make sure you have these before doing the reset.

You can then restart the hub, go into the hub manager and put in new password and wireless codes etc.

Normally, BT discontinue the BB Talk service when you get a V3, as it is incompatible. If you just want to continue to use your phone as a landline extension there are some options.

1. If you have another DECT base station with spare capacity, you can register the phone to that.

2. You can connect a home hub as a base station (but I doubt it if it is already being used as an extender) by connecting it as a telephone on the phone side of the filter, using some adaptery to make the connections work. It will then work for landline telephony only.

I wondered if someone could help - I have HomeHub 2.0 and all set up OK with home PC, laptop and Xbox all connected and accessing internet - however when I try and set up the Windows Media Centre with the Xbox as the Extender the Xbox is unable to contact the PC over the network - I get an error message saying the HomeHub is using b/g and when I do a test I am getting very low network performance - however all three (HomeHub, PC and Xbox) are in the same room and not more than a few feet from each other - and I have changed channels from automatic to 1, 6 and 11 - can anyone suggest why the Homehub is so reluctant to establish a better wi-fi network strength - it is also pertinent that I am usually able to get a stronger signal from the HomeHub across the road than my own. Thanks anyone for your ideas.

For games I would still suggest iOS. For some reason a lot of developers still develop games more for Apple than Android. Android by itself has a lot of games and good ones too. Apple has a slight edge in that it almost has every game that is available on Android plus a lot of exclusive games; they are not actually exclusive but when they will be ported to Android is the question.

Benefits with Android are, better hardware, smooth games, large screen etc

As far as apps are concerned both Android and apple have same apps and it is very difficult to find any difference. In fact Android has better apps than iOS due to it's openness.

With us all having to go over to Free-view and other digital platform, why is the EPG so poor a quality and as far as I know no broadcaster will tell us the public who sends out the EPG. My biggest beef with the providers are that they do not bother to put on the end of the description of the programmer if its a REPEAT after all all they have to do is put an "R" at the end of the information? So who sends the EPG out?

Yes, but you must use ethernet cable, not wifi, to connect slave to master.

http://www.filesaveas.com/jarviser/repeaterhubswired.html

Only the slave needs modifying but don't miss out any steps.
Slave can be any kind of HomeHub or any other router provided you do the 3 main steps of switch off DHCP in slave, switch off firewall in slave, change IP address of slave to match the master. .

By the way, there is no way of connecting the two systems, home and business, You would need a spare slave hub to connect to each system.

A few things I can think of to try...

1. It may be worth trying to kill whatever program is running with the keys Ctrl+Shift+Fn+K.
2. If the Psion hasn't completely crashed, you may also be able to extract your data by backing it up with PsiWin.
3. If it's crashed, the only thing I can recommend is a soft reset (press the button under the backup battery with a paperclip or pen).

If none of these work, then I think depriving the Psion of power is the only way out.
