Google street maps of UK now online

Finally, the UK version of Google Streetmaps is now online.

Google has had cars wandering around streets in 25 UK towns and cities for months, and you can now take a virtual drive through thousands of streets.

Coverage of the following towns and cities is now available: London, Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Southampton, Swansea and York.

Tough times for Tiscali

Internet Provider Tiscali is struggling. Dealing of shares in Tiscali on the Italian stock market have been suspended, and the company has debts totalling around £450 million.

Tiscali's been in talks with Sky to sell off their Broadband business, but those talks collapsed earlier in March.

What would a collapse of Tiscali mean to its 1.7 million UK Internet customers? The most likely outcome is that the customers would be snapped up at a bargain price by another UK provider.

BT get green light for super-fast broadband

BT's been planning its 21st century network, known as 21cn, for some time. Trouble is, rolling out this fibre optic network will cost BT £1.5 billion.

UK regulator has delivered some good news today - rules have been relaxed, allowing BT to sell on access to their new infrastructure, to allow them to recoup some of the huge outlay.
